Is General Hospital going to end in 2012? That is a question that many minds want to know. There is no real answer yet. It is scary because long running soaps such as All My Children and One Life to Live have been canceled, yet General Hospital is safe for now.
A big threat to General Hospital is Katie Couric's new talk show deal with ABC. She recently finalized the multi-million dollar deal , but which time slot it will fill has yet to be determined. She might fill a slot for a show which is slated to replace an already canceled soap, or she might steal General Hospital's spot, or simply replace Oprah's old time slot.
There is no doubt that General Hospital has been cutting their budget and making big moves. They have a new head writer and have canned a couple of their stars, such as Ingo Rademacher (Jax) and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth). It is also rumored that they are going to start moving into storylines which could end the show. One possibility that I like is Sonny and Carly ending up together, although I do not want the show to end.
It is scary to many GH fans, as this show has been on the air for decades. General Hospital is a show that I hold dear. Not only do I love the show, but I used to watch it with my mom everyday after school. It was her favorite show and watching it with her is one of my fondest memories of her.
Do you all think that General Hospital will meet its demise in 2012 like the other ABC soaps? I surely hope not!

Guys shouldn't watch GH?? That is a very sterotypical response, I am a guy and I been watching it for years.....What is the problem with that, I also watched AMC, OLTL,YR,B&B,DOOL. Oh yes and I do have a life too...
I have been a fan of GH since the late ‘70s (78 – 79). I used to go to my aunts for lunch and watch with her. I was so thankful for VHS (and now DVR) because I was able to record that soap. I do not want it to end. This is one of the staples of daytime soap. It began in April ’63, and next year it will celebrate the golden year; so please let it last even a few years longer.

I've been watching gh forever and has many people I know. We have enough dam talk shows As it is! They replaced one life to live & all my children for dumb talk shows! One word for ABC boring!!! For example "the chew" we have the dam food network for a reason!!! Oh and why cancel any soaps??? Let them air on soap net instead of reruns!! Whoever is making these decsions, have no clue what the hell they are doing to daytime tv!!!
watching gh is my time. i love some of the characters(jason)!!!!and sam.i was actually upset when i heard this.gosh i sure hope it stays.i work fulltime and i need this!!!!!when i come home.
katie c. can take opera old slot or do without. she can take her million dollars on some where. i have been watching this show for 25+ years she DOES NOT have any right to mess with it. Do not want it to end...I don't watch it every day but I when I'm in the mood to watch some TV and I'm at home, I watch it like catching up with an old friend. Since the early 80s. Bit sad if it goes!
I wish ABC would see the errors of their ways and get rid of the Chew(the title makes me want to be sick everytime I hear it!) I am mostly bedridden now and the only things I had to look forward to were the soaps. The Revolution certainly isn't going to help me. Give us back our soaps!

I have been watching general hospital for over 37 years and I love this soap! It has always been my time my break from real life. The people of port charles are my friends and I don't want the show to end. If abc cancels this soap I will never watch abc again , most of their programs are fluff or crap anyway
I agree I hate Katy Couric if she buys out gh time slot she has no respect for woman escaping from the real world of depressing real life so please please do not cancel GH I look forward to seeing jason sam lulu danta sonny carly and i hope u r bringing back robin that would be so awesome. my last 2 soaps were canceled and i was shocked and thought it was a dream and have been depressed as if my family members have died. So if u need donations Nd if i need to turn all 5 tv on to get the ratings. I will even start a petition i will so please dont take it off the air
Katy Couric find another time slot and get a life and quit passing on depressing news to the public and maybe spend ur millions and help us mid class people to have a little escape from reality!!!!!! U lost a family member don't let let us lose ours
have watched GH since black and white love it will do the same if they take it off as I have done for all my children and one life to live will never watch another show on there time slot who was the idiot who made this decision they do not care about their fans and what a loss of such talent if they break my heart again with GH may give up abc all together
General Hospital is a great soap and I hate the thought of Katie C. She can't make it on any other show so now she wants GH spot to fall on her face again. I won't watch her!!!!!!

Disney thinks the soaps are run by jeep! It has been a difficult trip for the fans and our favorite shows. Gh has always led the way for ABC. When they made the mob storyline central to General Hospital we lost the heart and soul of GH! All My Children and One Life to Live paid for It! Where is Stuart Damon! They deserve to be cancelled!
I dont want it to end i been watching it since i was 5 with my grate grandmother on one side of me and my grandmother on the other side after school now i am 20 and i love it so much it is the best show ever i will be so upset if it ends :(
Hey Shelly, I recently wrote another hub letting everyone know that GH has been renewed, at least for another year :) I think ABC is realizing what a HUGE mistake they made. So, rest assured, GH is here to stay :)
Did you say they got rid of Elizabeth? She is still there! Jax is gone but not Elizabeth. What is so special about Katy Couric? NOTHING! She gets on my nerves! She needs to remove all that mascara from her eyes & learn that she isn't any thing special & has no right to take GH's place. I love that they are putting the other soap people from one life to live it makes it so much better!
When I wrote this, a source stated that Rebecca Herbst was let go. I am so glad it was not true, she is one of my favorites. Please see my most recent GH hub. It was renewed :) I think ABC is beginning to realize what a mistake it was to get rid of soaps.
